When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.
This is dread administered slowly, through strobe and silence and colors that seem to hum. Refn turns Los Angeles into a hall of mirrors where beauty is appetite, and the horror arrives not as a shock but as a rising nausea. By the time it curdles into something physical, you have already been hypnotized into staying.
