After a violent storm, a dense cloud of mist envelops a small Maine town, trapping David Drayton and his five-year-old son in a local grocery store with other local residents. They soon discover that the mist conceals deadly horrors that threaten their lives, and worse, their sanity.
A grocery store becomes a pressure cooker where the real terror wanders in from both sides of the glass. What lurks in the mist unnerves, but Darabont's genius is the slow rot of human panic — fear metastasizing into fanaticism. The dread here is airless, claustrophobic, and morally suffocating, tightening until you can barely breathe.
