Like most families that settle inside The Gates, the Monahans are unmoored from a complicated life they abandoned in Chicago. There's something very different about this place, almost... haunting. The Gates trades in daylight dread — manicured lawns concealing something cold beneath. Its fear is slow and social, built on the sense that every polite neighbor is a predator managing an appetite. The unease creeps in the pauses between pleasantries, where you sense the smile is only holding back what waits.
