An Oxford Medical School graduate takes a position at a mental institution and soon becomes obsessed with a female mental patient, but he has no idea of a recent and horrifying staffing change.
A slow, candlelit descent where the terror is never quite what your eyes report. Set inside a Victorian asylum where every certainty erodes, it works on your nerves through creeping doubt rather than shock. The dread here is intellectual and clammy: you spend the film uncertain who to trust, including yourself.
