Shaun lives a supremely uneventful life, which revolves around his girlfriend, his mother, and, above all, his local pub. This gentle routine is threatened when the dead return to life and make strenuous attempts to snack on ordinary Londoners.
The fear here arrives sideways, buried in the mundane rhythms of a Sunday hangover. Edgar Wright lets the dread creep in behind the laughs, so the genuine gore and mounting siege panic land harder for catching you off guard. What unsettles you is how ordinary the apocalypse feels until it's clawing at the door.
