During an ever-growing epidemic of zombies that have risen from the dead, two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter, and his television-executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall.
The dread here is patient and airless — a slow suffocation dressed in daylight and fluorescent hum. Romero lets the horror accumulate, trading jump scares for the creeping certainty that safety is an illusion and the dead never stop arriving. The gore lands with blunt, matter-of-fact cruelty, and the emptiness that follows is worse than any shock.
