Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.
Filmed through a single trembling handheld lens, Cloverfield straps you inside the panic of ordinary people running from something enormous. The dread is claustrophobic and disorienting — you only see what the camera sees, which means you never quite know where the danger is. It weaponizes not knowing, and the result is relentless, breathless survival horror.
